Wendy

Lena came to live with me in March of 1990 just prior to her third birthday. The adoption didn't go through until April of 1985. She came from a background of abuse and neglect, and has carried a variety of diagnoses over the year, but RAD has been fairly consistent. She also has severe learning disabilities and PTSD.

I spent much time in the early years rocking her and singing to her, and she has attached to me. She still struggles with many issues and needs (as one psychologist put it, she will always be "high-maintenance"), but she also continues to improve.

I don't know what the future holds, but I do know she will continue to present me with many challenges and rewards.
